Insurance

Insurance – everyone who works lawful in the Netherlands must have health insurance, also person who are not registered in the Netherlands. You must insure yourself against the costs of medical care. Even if you do not live in the Netherlands, but you work here and pay tax, you have to arrange health insurance. This also applies if you already have health insurance in your home country and only work in the Netherlands. The employer is obliged to pay social security contributions. Social insurance is not related to health insurance.

If you have a Dutch health insurance you are entitled to allowance – Zorgtoeslag.

When can you be living in the Netherlands without being insured?

  • If you work outside the Netherlands and do not have a Dutch secondment certificate.
  • If you work as a civil servant for another country’s embassy or consulate, or for an international organization such as NATO, the European Union or Eurocontrol. Your family members will only be insured if they work in the Netherlands.
  • If you work for the government of another country or for the Antillean or Aruban government. In that case, your family members will not be covered under Dutch national insurance either.
  • If you work in international transport for a non-Dutch employer, transporting persons or goods mainly outside the Netherlands.
  • If you are a musician, performing artist or sportsperson working in the Netherlands for a short period of time.
  • If you are studying in the Netherlands temporarily and are not employed.

Jaaropgaven

Jaaropgaven – tax card, employer appears the document for each taxable year. The Jaaropgaven is a basis for settlement of the annual tax. It contains data about salaries and height of the contributions paid by employer.

Kindgebonden budget

Kindgebonden budget – from January 2009 it is supplement for child, (replace Kindertoeslag), this is an addition to the Kinderbijslag. Height supplement depends on the income and the amount of children in the family. It is granted only to children below 18 years old. Application for Kindgebonden budget should be submitted only once. Supplement is paid by the Dutch Tax Office.

Limited Liability Company (Besloten Vennootschap)

Limited Liability Company (Besloten vennootschap) – Can be created by one person or by another company. Statute must be written in Dutch and signed by a notary. Entrepreneur must obtain a certificate from Ministry of Justice (Het Ministerie van Justitie) decisions on the absence of opposition to the running of the company (eg. the founding individuals had no problems with the law). Limited Liability Company has limited the risk of substantive liability. Share capital firms are a minimum of € 18.152 in cash or in the form of a contribution. Opening formalities BV It takes about 2 months, at that time the company may works (during this time the name of the company should add i.o. – in oprichting (in formation)).

Sociale Verzekeringsbank (SVB)

Sociale Verzekeringsbank (SVB) the organization that implements national insurance schemes in the Netherlands. This financial support is called child benefit (kinderbijslag). If you live or work in the Netherlands and you have a children under 18, you can get Dutch child benefit for the costs of bringing up and caring for them. The rules for who can get and how much child benefit will be paid are set down by the National Child Benefits Act (AKW). For SVB may apply person who work in the Netherlands, and sending a quarterly basis at least 416 Euros a person who cares for the children in the home country.
